WHAT INFLUENCED THEM TO WORK WITH CHILD EVANGELISM FELLOWSHIP®

While directing the bus ministry at our home church, we saw the value of reaching children for Christ while they were young. We began seeking God’s leading as to where we could serve, reaching even more children for His kingdom. Larry was asked by the local CEF director in Monroe County, New York to join his board. While serving on the board, Larry was introduced to teacher training. Realizing that more children could be reached through the training of others, we began to ask God if He would have us serve with CEF. After much prayer, God directed us to work full time with Child Evangelism Fellowship.

TESTIMONIES

Larry - I was saved as a child while listening to Billy Graham on the radio. At the age of 18, I attended a Christian camp where I dedicated my life to Christ. When I was 27 years old I was involved in a serious auto accident. While recovering in the hospital I met Debbie.

Debbie - I was raised in a good moral home. My parents made sure I attended church every Sunday. I had just completed my nurses training when I met Larry. After marrying Larry I worked as a private duty nurse. While attending a crusade at our church, I realized that my sin was keeping me from going to Heaven. I went forward that morning and received Jesus as my Savior.

Our ministry with CEF began in 1987 after I, Larry graduated from Word of Life Bible Institute. We continued to serve as the local directors until 1992. At that time we began our preparation to serve with CEF in Haiti. We arrived in Haiti February 1996. After some language study (Creole) we started taking on some CEF responsibilities. In January of 1998, I (Larry) had the joy of teaching my first Teaching Children Effectively™  session in Creole. In June of 1998 Adline Liberal was installed as the CEF Haiti director and I was appointed as assistant to the director.

In 2000 I (Larry) began teaching Good News Clubs ®   in schools.  I first began in Christian schools and then the Lord opened the door to other private schools.  My goal was to teach 10 classes a week.  We ended up teaching 7.  God continued to add schools and teachers.  In 2003 we began teaching classes in two National schools.  Debbie continued to manage the lending library and work on the monthly teacher training classes.

In January of 2004 we had to leave Haiti because of the political unrest.  While in the United States we prayed for God’s direction for further ministry with CEF.  God clearly showed us that we were to turn the work in Haiti over to the nationals. He also provided opportunities for us to serve in CEF at the World Headquarters.  I served as Director of Missionary Development and Debbie served as administrative assistant in the Recruitment Department. In November of 2006 John Romano, CEF State Director in Maine , shared with us that God brought our names to mind while he was praying for someone to fill the position of local Director in the Southern Maine Chapter. Would we pray about coming to Maine? We assured him that we would pray. After several weeks of prayer and counsel from our pastor we felt that God would have us take the position. We are grateful for God’s leading and confident that He will continue to lead as we do His will, reaching the children of Southern Maine.
